Square Enix Starts Hiring For New Next-Generation Action IP
Square Enix has tasked its First Development Division to start work on a brand new, unannounced intellectual property for next-generation consoles.
According to the official Japanese recruitment website (via Gematsu), which was just updated, Square Enix is looking to hire more talented individuals. The job description states that the mysterious project is a next-generation action experience that “takes a step forward from the existing action game framework.” No further details have been mentioned apart from confirming that whatever Square Enix is working on could possibly end up as a brand new franchise.
The First Development Division has an impressive resume to boast. The list of games that the studio has worked on includes Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy 13, SaGa: Scarlet Grace, Romancing SaGa 3, Romancing SaGa Re:Universe, and various others.
For those unaware, Square Enix restructured its development studios into eleven divisions back in 2013. Each division operates independently and has complete autonomy over development. Earlier this year, however, Square Enix decided to tone down the number to just four divisions in order to streamline the process and more effectively manage resources between divisions.
Similar to the First Development Division, the Third Development Division is also working on a brand new, unannounced intellectual property for next-generation consoles. This project was actually announced a few months back by Square Enix and is looking for talented individuals to join development as well.
“Following Final Fantasy XIV, we have launched a new core project and have begun the challenge for the next generation,” Square Enix said back then. “This project has already completed its initial development, has completed environment development and is now moving into a full-scale large-scale development phase.”
It goes without saying that either of the two unannounced projects are unlikely to release before 2021.
Elsewhere, Square Enix has its hands full with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which arrives on March 3, 2020, for PlayStation 4. You can go through the pre-order options here, including a massive collector’s edition that will sit nicely on your shelf.
